Brewer SB tops Cullman in high scoring affair:

Longest game of the softball season covered by GDW:

GDW Analysis:
Run production was on a high rate Monday in AHSAA softball between the Brewer Lady Patriots and the Cullman Lady Bearcats.
Playing in unpleasant conditions, the two put together the longest game of the season reported by Gameday Weekly.
Brewer outlasted Cullman 17 to 10 with the contest going a full 7 innings, taking 2 hours, 35 minutes to be played.
Both teams had moments of lighting up the scoreboard on timely hits.
The game also encountered situations in which runs were accounted for by walks and throwing errors.
After Brewer had batted in its half of the 4th, the Morgan County visitors led 12 to 1. The game looked to be in the possibility of a victory for the Lady Patriots via the run rule.
That was not accomplished.
Jessica McBrayer's Lady 'Cats would tally 9 runs in the final 4 innings.
Scoring three in the 5th kept the contest alive with Cullman now trailing 12 to 6.
The Lady 'Cats then stayed with momentum by adding two to the tally in the 6th. Cullman was behind 12 to 8 with one inning left.
However, the Brewer bats, silent from the 5th and 6th, showed signs of life by sending 5 across home in the 7th on 5 timely hits.
The Lady Patriots moved the lead to 17 to 8, needing three outs to go home on a bitter cold spring afternoon that became a spring evening.
Cullman did not make it easy.
Two runs scored thanks to three hits in the frame.
Brewer managed to slow down the momentum and record the final out at 7:07 p.m.
Cullman accounted for 11 hits from the 4th through the 7th.
A key statistic in the game was Cullman leaving the bases loaded in the 1st and 3rd. Ten runners were stranded with 7 of them being in scoring position.

Run scoring hits came courtesy of Resse Hopper with a 1B in the 4th, Kynlei Story a 2B in the 4th, Hattie Graham a 3 run homer in the 5th, Presley Burden a 2 run 2B in the 6th, Graham with an RBI single in the 7th.
Leadoff batter Abby Maples had a single and double in two of her final three at bats. She scored twice and drove in a run.
The loss stopped a 3 game winning streak for the Lady 'Cats on the home turf.
Cullman gets into an area encounter at home Tuesday vs. the Jasper Lady Vikings.
First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
