Cullman BK assistant moves on to coach at Mortimer Jordan:

Johnsey gets hired by 6A program in Jefferson County:

GDW Analysis:
MORRIS: Jason Johnsey will now get to lead a high school basketball team for the 3rd time in his coaching career.
Johnsey was named the new coach at Mortimer Jordan High School Wednesday.
Johnsey had spent the past two years as an assistant on Stu Stuedeman's staff at Cullman.
Now Johnsey will be seeing the Bearcats twice in the new season as both are locked in AHSAA 6A, Area 13, along with Jasper High School.
Johnsey coached at Fayette County for one season, 2018/19.
Three years later, he was in Walker County in command of the Curry Yellow Jackets. Curry posted a 15 & 15 record with Johnsey in 2021/22.

After being with Curry for one year, Johnsey got the opportunity to come into a program that has been on the rise in the last three seasons. Cullman basketball has claimed 78 victories under Stuedeman against 18 losses.
The two years Johnsey was with the "Black and Gold," Cullman won back to back area championships, two sub regional victories and played in the Northwest Regional in 6A at Wallace State.
Cullman finished 2023/24 at 23 & 9, losing in the regional title game to eventual state champion Buckhorn High School.
Johnsey fills the vacancy for the Blue Devils after Josh Golden was recently hired to handle the top duties at Hartselle High School.
Update:
According to information Gameday Weekly has been able to collect, 12 schools across the state are currently without a head basketball coach.

The closest to the GDW coverage area is in Morgan County at Priceville.
JR Dillbeck resigned in June. Priceville is also preparing to play in Class 5A in the AHSAA for the first time.
New basketball coaches around GDW for 2024/25 will be in Cold Springs, Albertville, Decatur, West Morgan, Hartselle, Athens, Danville and Corner.
