Area showdowns at West Point, Good Hope, Cold Springs:

GDW Analysis:
On the weekend before the Cullman County basketball tournament begins, half a dozen teams are hoping home court serves as an advantage with AHSAA area games on tap for Friday.
West Point, Good Hope and Cold Springs have Russellville, Danville and Falkville to pay a visit January 17.

Here is a preview of these matchups:
 Russellville at West Point
(G) 5:15 & 6:30 p.m. on WKUL FM (92.1)
West Point Lady Warriors are 3 & 0 in 5A, Area 15. They have to win in order to eliminate Russellville who is 1 & 1 in the area.

 Lady Warriors have a 16 & 4 record and are 5th in the latest 5A state poll.
West Point is in a must win mode. The Warriors need to beat the Golden Tigers Friday and Russellville to lose to Lawrence County on January 24. That would have all three teams in 5A, Area 15 with 2 & 2 records.
West Point is 19 & 4 and in the Top 10 of the 5A poll this week at No. 9.
Russellville is 2 & 0 in the area and 10 & 5 on the season.

Danville at Good Hope:
(G) 5:45 & 7:00 p.m.
Good Hope's teams went to East Lawrence Thursday trying to stay atop in 4A, Area 13 games.
The Lady Raiders were 4 & 0 in the area. A victory would clinch the No. 1 seed for the area tournament.
Good Hope was trying to end a 3 game losing streak. The Raiders and West Morgan were tied for the lead at 3 & 1 after West Morgan upset the Raiders 87 to 82 Tuesday in OT.

 Falkville at Cold Springs:
(G) 6:00 & 7:15 p.m.
From the 1 year old Cold Springs Gymnasium, the Lady Eagles and Eagles are out to defeat Falkville and lock down the regular season title in 2A, Area 11.
Both are 3 & 0 in area play. The two got road wins at Falkville January 9.
Tammy West's Lady Eagles are 2nd in the 2A state poll. Adam McKinnon's Eagles have won 5 of their last 6 games.

Holly Pond at Hanceville 5:45/7:00

Brewer at Vinemont 6:30/7:45
A win by the Cullman Bearcats makes them 2 & 0 in 6A, Area 13. The 'Cats clobbered the Blue Devils last week 74 to 42. Cullman is 21 & 3 and No. 3 in the 6A poll.
Fairview Lady Aggies get the No. 1 team to visit Joe Shults Gymnasium in a 5A, Area 14 contest. Scottsboro has a 20 & 3 record and undefeated in the area.
Homecoming will be at Lane Horton Gymnasium for Hanceville with Holly Pond being the opponent.
Vinemont has back to back games at home this weekend. Both meet Brewer Friday and entertain St. Bernard Saturday afternoon.
