GDW Analysis:
FAIRVIEW: In 1 hour 35 minutes Tuesday, Arab volleyball got past the Fairview Lady Aggies 3 to 1 in the 5A, Area 14 opener for both teams.
Fairview grabbed the 2nd set in a thriller by the score of 29 to 27 to tie the match at a victory apiece.
However, the Lady Aggies could not maintain the edge and the visitor from Marshall County took down Katie Ball's squad in winning the 3rd and 4th set, 25 to 17 and 25 to 16.
Fairview had played well in August with 5 wins out of 8 assignments, a winning clip of .620.
The Lady Aggies were up 22 to 19 in the opener when Arab managed to break service and finish off with a 6 to 1 late set surge.
Back and forth the two went in the 2nd game. Fairview went ahead 24 to 23 on a kill by Whitney Quick. They could not get the next point and tie the set until a dramatic ending.
A net serve gave Fairview a chance to tie the score at 27 to 27. Mali Gregory put the Lady Aggies ahead with an ace. The set winner was on a net block from Maci Gregory.
Arab went to the lead to stay in the 3rd game with three consecutive points, making it 16 to 13.
Kills by sophomore Madelyn Toth and senior Tessa Monroe enabled Arab to get breathing room and win the set 25 to 17.
Trying to get the match even in Game 3, Fairview narrowed it to 15 to 13 on a net block from sophomore Kensli Redding.
Arab regained the tempo in going up 20 to 13 on a kill by Toth.
A late surge from the home side with an ace by Kailyn Redding was good, but not enough.
Arab took the area match with it ending at 5:34 p.m. a time of 1 hour, 35 minutes.
Ball had to be pleased with effort from the Redding sisters, Kailyn and Kensli, plus Quick, the Gregory sisters Maci and Mali, Tara Evans, Anna Strane and Anna Harris.
Fairview faced East Lawrence in the later part of a tri match from Joe Shults Gymnasium.
The Lady Aggies go to Scottsboro Thursday for the road opener in 5A, Area 14.
