GDW Analysis:
ATLANTA: Despite the Atlanta Braves struggling by going 2 & 7 in a homestand that finished Sunday with a 2 to 1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles, first baseman Matt Olson has stood out.
In his last 7 games, Olson has batted .370 with 2 HRs, 6 RBIs and a slugging percentage of .667.
It propelled the National League to put Olson on the roster for the 2025 All Star Game. The reserves and pitching staffs were announced by Major League Baseball Sunday afternoon.
The game will be played July 15 from the home of the Braves, Truist Park.
Olson joins Ronald Acuna Jr who was named a starter for the NL in the outfield earlier in the week.
Olson displayed his credentials Saturday when he was 3 for 3 with a HR, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
The left handed hitting first baseman tops the Braves with a .333 average, 17 home runs and 58 runs batted in.
This is the 2nd time in the last 3 years for Olson to represent the Braves in the All Star Game.
The game will be the 3rd time that it has been played in Atlanta.
The first was in 1972 at Atlanta/Fulton County Stadium. It returned to Atlanta in 2000 when the game took place from Turner Field.
Left handed pitcher Chris Sale was named to the NL roster, even though he is on the disabled list from a rib injury in a recent game he pitched against the New York Mets.
Acuna Jr will be in the home run derby on July 14.
Olson and his all star teammates will have a workout that day as well.
For the week prior to the All Star game, Olson and the Braves will be on the road.
They start a 3 game series with the Athletics Tuesday in Sacramento.
Next weekend, they will head to St. Louis to play the Cardinals 3 times then go into the short lived all star break.
