Giants Blank Braves 5-0, Series Evened in San Francisco

The Atlanta Braves couldn’t build on Friday night’s momentum, falling 5-0 to the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night at Oracle Park.

San Francisco rode a dominant performance from starter Logan Webb and a monster night at the plate from Rafael Devers to even the three-game series at one game apiece.

The Turning Point

The Giants struck first in the second inning when Devers launched a solo home run to put San Francisco up 1-0. Things unraveled quickly in the third.

After the Giants added another run on a sacrifice fly, Devers delivered the knockout blow—a three-run homer that pushed the lead to 5-0. That was more than enough support for Webb, who controlled the game from there.

Braves Offense Held Quiet

Atlanta’s bats never got going.

The Braves managed just one hit all night, with Mauricio Dubón recording the club’s lone hit against his former team. Atlanta struggled to generate traffic on the bases and never seriously threatened against Webb and the Giants bullpen.

Pitching Notes

Bryce Elder got the start for Atlanta and battled through four innings, but the Giants’ offense capitalized early. Elder allowed all five runs and took the loss, his third straight defeat.

Meanwhile, Webb was electric for San Francisco:

  • 7 innings pitched
  • 1 hit allowed
  • 0 earned runs
  • 6 strikeouts
  • 2 walks

San Francisco’s bullpen closed the door with two scoreless innings to complete the shutout.

Series Outlook

The loss drops Atlanta to 49-32, though the Braves remain atop the National League East standings. The series finale on Sunday now becomes the rubber match in San Francisco.

What to Watch Next

Atlanta will look to bounce back in Sunday’s series finale and secure a road series win. The Braves will need a much stronger offensive showing after being silenced Saturday night.
