FAIRVIEW: George Redding announced Friday he is retiring from coaching football at Fairview High School.
Redding has become the winningest coach in Cullman County schools' history after 19 seasons with his alma mater.
Redding's record is 139 & 71.
From 2020 to 2025, Fairview rose to the top of local football, claiming 60 wins against 12 losses.
The Aggies were 10 & 2 in 2020, 12 & 2 in 2021, 7 & 4 in 2022, 9 & 2 in 2023, 10 & 2 in 2024 and 2025.
Fairview compiled two perfect regular season records of 9 & 0 in 2024 and 10 & 0 the previous year.
The Aggies had two solid runs into the playoffs, reaching the 5A semifinal round in 2021 and the quarterfinals in 2025.
Fairview won consecutive 5A Region 7 championships without losing a regional game in 2024 and 2025.
"After a lot of prayer, reflections and conversation with my family, I've decided it's time for me to retire," Redding said in a statement released to the public.
"To our community, I want to thank you for always being there. Thank you for making Friday night at Dafford Smith Stadium the greatest environment in the world."
No timetable has been announced in the task of replacing Redding.
Fairview will be dropping to Class 4A in the reclassification of the AHSAA that became public a month earlier.
The Aggies will compete in Region 8 with Brewer, Cherokee County, Crossville, Good Hope, Guntersville, Hayden, Sardis and Scottsboro.
