GOOD HOPE: In becoming the latest to fill the vacancy of head basketball coach, Good Hope High School is bringing a person well known for his time spent through a series of stints as an assistant coach.
The 4A program announced Thursday the hiring of Cory Meyer for the 2026/27 season and into the future.
Meyer understands the game in many phases for working alongside his father Bobby Meyer during his tenure at Cullman High School and the last two years, West Morgan High School.
Meyer stated through social media being thankful and very excited in given the opportunity to lead Good Hope's basketball program into the future.
He looks to positive relationships that will be created in this environment with the quest of athletes being role models in the community.
In working with his father, Meyer witnessed the rise of West Morgan hoops, going from 17 victories in 2024/25 to 25 out of 32 decisions in the recent year now completed.
The Rebels played for the 4A championship in consecutive years of the AHSAA Northwest Regional at Wallace State Community College.

Good Hope and West Morgan went to war the past two years competing in Area 13 of 4A basketball.

With re-classification, Good Hope is in a new area setup for the next two years, sharing this with Fairview, West Point and Hayden.
Good Hope experienced a challenging 2025/26 season that produced only 8 victories against 16 losses. The Raiders could not process consistency on the floor with a series of battles coming up on the short end of the scoreboard.
The hiring of Meyer is the 3rd for Good Hope in approximately a year.
Drew Adams stepped down last spring and took the job to coach at Cold Springs.
Griffin Morris, an assistant to Adams, was promoted to the lead role and coached the squad during the playday schedule in June of 2025.
But Morris became a father in the summer and would eventually remove himself from the head position as his father, Hall of Fame coach Mitch Morris, accepted the offer right before the start of fall practice last October.
The hiring of Meyer comes a day after Hanceville High School announced 2015 Fairview HS graduate Tyler Yearwood will be the new Bulldogs' hoops coach.
Vacancies currently remain in local basketball at Holly Pond High School and the girls position at West Point High School.
Tim Willoughby recently retired from the lead role at Holly Pond and John Welborn decided to step down after directing the West Point Lady Warriors to 28 wins out of 30 games in 2025/26, reaching the Elite Eight in Class 5A.
