GDW Analysis:
HANCEVILLE: Class 3A Area 12 softball is intense this week with two teams trying to create a gap between themselves and the rest of the field.
Hanceville's Lady Bulldogs are atop the standings at 5 & 0 following a pair of victories in consecutive days against opponents from Blount County.
Hanceville toppled Locust Fork 11 to 7 Monday on the road to sweep the Lady Hornets in the season schedule. Hanceville was a 7 to 6 winner against Locust Fork last Thursday at home.
On Tuesday, the Lady Bulldogs claimed a 5 to 1 triumph against JB Pennington from Jack Howell Field.
In her first season with the team, Kim Lewis has the Lady Bulldogs hitting stride with their last three wins coming in the area and the record getting better at 10/12/1.
Hanceville is a game ahead of Vinemont in the standings as Vinemont was at home Tuesday in a battle with Holly Pond.
Vinemont's only loss in the area was a couple of weeks ago on the home field to Hanceville by the final of 15 to 3.
Makayla Butler started strong for Hanceville in the circle Tuesday striking out the side in the 1st.
RBI doubles from Kynzlee Farr and Isabella Spinks in the 1st sent the Lady Bulldogs ahead to stay.
The first run was scored by Bentley Childers who singled, stole 2nd and scored on a passed ball.
Butler got help from her teammates in the 2nd as Piper Butts raced home on a RBI groundout by Laila Lewis and the score was now 4 to 0.
Pennington managed to put a run across the 4th after Butler hit a batter with one out. The Lady Tigers executed a sacrifice bunt with the throw going wide of first and the runner coming into score.
After that Butler, shut down the visitor for the rest of the affair. The righthander allowed 1 run on 2 hits with 0 walks, 1 hit batter and 14 strikeouts.
She struck out the first two she faced in the 7th as the game ended at 6:03 p.m. on a fly ball to Mia McCain in right field.
The final run from the batters' box for Hanceville was by McCain in the 4th with 2 outs as a base hit sent Butts in from 2nd and a 5 to 1 advantage.
Hanceville keeps the area schedule intact with a game at Holly Pond Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
Holly Pond entered this week winless overall and 0 & 3 in the area standings.
