GDW Analysis:
HOLLY POND: Locust Fork finished its AHSAA 3A, Area 12 softball schedule Wednesday, shutting out the Holly Pond Lady Broncos 13 to 0.
Locust Fork compiled 7 wins in 8 games in the area regular season. The Lady Hornets earned victory on 3 consecutive days against Hanceville, Vinemont and Holly Pond.
Now the lady Hornets wait to see what will happen with Vinemont.
Vinemont, 5 & 1 in the area standings, plays at JB Pennington Thursday and entertains Hanceville on Friday.
If Vinemont closes out with wins, they and Locust Fork will be tied and a coin toss will determine who will host the Area 12 tournament next weekend.
Locust Fork spent 19 minutes in the batters' box to start Wednesday's game, jumping out to a 7 to 0 lead.
Ava Hancock batted twice in the frame, hitting a pair of doubles, driving in three runs.
Meredith Love was in the circle for Locust Fork, allowing a leadoff double in the Holly Pond 1st from Maggie Nail.
A sacrifice bunt by Olivia Smith moved her to 3rd, but she remained there as Love got a groundout and a strike out to finish the inning.
Khloe Blalock delivered a 2 run single in the 3rd, a key hit in the inning with Locust Fork raising the advantage to 11 to 0.
Holly Pond tried to get something going in the 2nd with a leadoff single by Jaycee Hankins. A 6/4/3 double play and a strikeout ended this scoring opportunity.
Alivia Watkins slammed a solo homer for Locust Fork in the 5th while pinch hitter Shanna Johnson was safe on an error and later scored on a passed ball. That made it 13 to 0.
Calloway threw the final three innings with a key play of catching a line drive hit to her by Nail in the circle and then throwing to first for a double play to end the Holly Pond threat.
She allowed one hit with one walk and three strikeouts.
The game was played in 1 hour, 24 minutes ending at 4:54 p.m.
Holly Pond ends the area regular season schedule at home Thursday vs. Hanceville at 4:00 p.m.
