Success for Vinemont, Holly Pond, Good Hope in regional opener:

Eagles, Broncos pull off upsets, Raiders romp at Fultondale:

GDW Analysis:
Prior to Friday's assignments, the Vinemont Eagles and Holly Pond Broncos had never been a winner in taking on Phil Campbell and Sylvania.
Vinemont changed that culture in a 22 to 16 upset of Phil Campbell from Mark Smothers Stadium in the Eagles' opener in 3A, Region 5.
On the East side of Cullman County, the Holly Pond Broncos claimed a dramatic victory in scoring with less than 30 seconds remaining to defeat Sylvania 24 to 21.
Vinemont was 0 & 3 all time against Phil Campbell, losing to the Bobcats last year in 4 OTs by the score of 44 to 42.
Holly Pond had failed in 5 matchups with Sylvania, getting thumped last season in Dekalb County 48 to 6.
Now the Eagles and Broncos can celebrate a 1 & 0 start in 3A, Region 5 (Vinemont) and 3A, Region 8 (Holly Pond).
Elsewhere from Friday:
Susan Moore 66, Cold Springs 50: Susan Moore prevented the Eagles from starting the season 3 & 0 as they won for the first time in 2025 in trying to blow out the scoreboard at Larry Patterson Field.
Susan Moore went from 28 to 22 at the half to 52 to 38 going into the 4th quarter.
This was a 2A, Region 6 game with the Eagles 0 & 7 all time now to the Bulldogs.
Good Hope 52, Fultondale 0: Superior play was shown by Good Hope in clobbering Fultondale down in Jefferson County.
The Raiders led this 4A, Region 5 contest 42 to 0 thanks to 5 TDs for Alan Scott's group in the 2nd quarter.
Good Hope is 2 & 0 and is tops in county defense, giving up one TD in eight quarters of the young season.
Athens 41, Cullman 38: Athens sent Cullman to a second consecutive heartbreaking loss with the Golden Eagles hanging on at Athens Stadium.
Cullman trailed 34 to 23 following the 3rd and made a game of it.
But time ran out on the Bearcats as they have lost their first three games in well over half a decade.
The 'Cats last week fell 21 to 20 at Mortimer Jordan.
Gordo 72, Hanceville 8: Class 3A, Region 5 power Gordo visited Ray Talley Stadium for the first time and went back home with a one sided triumph.
