GDW Analysis:
Understanding their task, the Vinemont Lady Eagles took care of it Friday evening to maintain the lead in AHSAA 3A, Area 11.
Vinemont improved its area record to 6 & 1 as they seek the opportunity of earning the regular season title Friday with a home game against Holly Pond.
Holly Pond is 2nd at 4 & 2 with Locust Fork in 3rd place at 4 & 3. Locust Fork plays at Hanceville on January 13. Hanceville travels to Holly Pond next Friday.
It was Miller time in the first 8:00. The Vinemont shooting guard tallied 14 points hitting 2 FGs, 2 treys and 4 of 4 FTs in sending her squad on top thanks to a 12 to 2 run late in the period.
Vinemont showed consistency of scoring 19 in the 2nd and held a 38 to 19 lead when the half ended.
The Lady Eagles would build a huge lead to as many as 28 points in the 3rd before Hanceville answered with a run led by the scoring from Twitty with 11 of her 19 in the final half.
After Hanceville closed the deficit to 36 in the 4th, Emily Willoughby's Lady Eagles accounted for the final 22 points to win the contest going away.
Vinemont had a 24 to 5 final period hitting 11 FGs, 2 treys in a span of 8:00.
Hanceville managed just 2 FGs in the last period, both coming from Twitty.
Their 77 points matched the total the team endured in a victory over Susan Moore (77 to 61) on November 24 in the Encore Classic at Hartselle.
