GDW Analysis:
ADDISON: Wadley Bulldogs remain undefeated after leaving AG Hicks Stadium Friday evening with a 22 to 14 playoff victory over the Addison Bulldogs in the 1A semifinal.
RB Jaquez Wilkes scored on a 4 yard run with 3:59 left in the 4th to break a 14 to 14 tie. Wadley stopped Addison short of a first down at the Wadley 13, taking over to run out the clock.
Wilkes ran for 2 touchdowns with Wadley scoring three times in the game on drives of 53, 82 and 49 yards.
Addison trailed 14 to 0 at halftime. The Bulldogs open the 2nd half recovering an onside kick and would go 45 yards for the score.
A 34 yard pass from Elijah Roberts to Trennon Burns got the Bulldogs on the scoreboard.
A 2 point conversion cut the lead to 14 to 8.
Addison's defense gave the Bulldogs a chance when they stopped Wadley short of a first down at Wadley and took over with 7:49 to go in the 4th.
Burns was on the receiving end of an 8 yard scoring pass from Roberts. The Bulldogs missed the conversion, but had the game even at 14 to 14 with 5:19 showing.
Wadley took over from its 49 and a 43 yard run by Cortavion Lynch gave them a first and goal at the Addison 6.
Two plays later, Wilkes was in the end zone and a 2 point play made it 22 to 14.
Addison had a huge play on its next drive of Roberts to Judah Wilkins for 50 yards.
The Bulldogs reached the Wadley 13 only to lose possession when a 4th down run became a 3 yard loss and Wadley got it with 1:15 to go.
A Wilkes run of 10 yards was all Wadley needed to kill the clock and take a 13 & 0 record into the 1A title game in Birmingham next Thursday vs. Maplesville.
Addison's best season since 2018 ends at 12 & 2 under first year coach Mark Hastings.
The Bulldogs entered the semifinal round with a 7 game winning streak.
