CLINTON, Mississippi: Alabama High School girls' basketball continues to show superior strength against the best from the state of Mississippi.
In the 36th edition of this hoops classic, Team Alabama romped by Team Mississippi 93 to 65 Saturday afternoon at Mississippi College.
Alabama girls' have won 9 consecutive all star encounters and lead the series 22 to 14.
Local connection for Alabama comes from Tammy West in a regular role as the administrative coach. West just concluded her first season at Cullman High School with 21 wins against 9 losses and a berth to the AHSAA 6A Sub Regional playoff round.
The Alabama stars began very well with a 26 to 14 lead after the opening period. At the half, Alabama was up 52 to 25 and coasted from that point on.
Hannah Smith from Catholic Montgomery was selected the MVP for Alabama.
Smith had 12 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 50 percent from the field.
The last game Smith played for Catholic came against the Good Hope Lady Raiders last week in the AHSAA 4A state semifinal from Legacy Arena in Birmingham.
A well known player to Gameday Weekly is Lani Smallwood. Smallwood played at Susan Moore High School up through her sophomore season.
She would follow her mother Natasha to Albertville in 2024/25 when she became the school's new coach.
Smallwood scored 12 points, hit a pair of treys and produced a team high 4 assists.
Alabama's offense accounted for 38 field goals, 10 shots from 3 point range and 7 of 9 from the FT line.
Mississippi was 21 of 57 in total FGs, only 4 of 16 from long range and 52 percent at the line in hitting 19 of 37 tries.
Blake Smith of Trinity Presbyterian, the 2025 Class 4A state champion, ran the Alabama all stars. His assistant was Caprie Tucker of Athens with West in her role from the administrative position.
