GDW Analysis:
VINEMONT: On the weekend in which Cullman County schools will be involved in graduation, another athletic program is reporting the change in a head coaching position.
The latest is Vinemont basketball.
Through sources, Gameday Weekly has been informed Preston Boyd submitted his resignation May 15.
It was accepted by the school. Vinemont administration then announced assistant coach James Brown will be elevated to the head position for the 2025/26 season.
Boyd had been commanding Eagles basketball since 2018 when he came to Vinemont after being on the staff at West Point High School.
In 7 years, the Eagles accounted for 65 victories. Boyd's best stint with the squad was the past 3 seasons with Vinemont earning 35 victories.
Graduation got the Eagles after 2024 with Vinemont a young team. An 8 & 19 record indicated how the team competed but was not reflected on a common basis in how people look at the scoreboard.
Seven players who were sophomores in the 2024/25 season, gained valuable experience with Brown seeing this nearby on the bench, assisting Boyd.
Gavin Parr, William Conquest, Eli Sharpe, Bryson Bush laid it on the line for the Eagles in being seen several times by Gameday Weekly.
Tucker Mauter got playing time in the backcourt as a freshman with Geraldo Flores and Cheston Wilhite contributing as juniors.
Vinemont will remain in 3A, Area 11 for the new season as the Eagles have Hanceville, Holly Pond, JB Pennington and Locust Fork as area opponents.
With the change now at Vinemont, local basketball will be with new leaders at the following schools.
Drew Adams at Cold Springs.
Griffin Morris at Good Hope
James Brown at Vinemont.
GDW is not aware of any other changes for prep basketball with the 2024/25 school year to officially close out on May 21.
