GDW Analysis:
Margin of error is very much an item the Cold Springs Eagles, Cullman Bearcats and West Point Warriors face in their next basketball assignment.
It's area games for the three teams that are around the top of the leaderboard in success this season, getting covered regularly by Gameday Weekly.
Area games are vital with the regular season winner to host their respective area playoff in early February.
Cold Springs, Cullman and West Point are in 3 team areas for 2025/26 play.
Cold Springs:
Friday at Falkville in 2A, Area 11.
CS is 3 & 0 in area, Falkville 2 & 1.
The Eagles are currently 1st in the 2A state poll, 21 & 1 for the season and winners of 17 in a row with Drew Adams in his first season.
Tip time at Tom Drake Gymnasium is 7:30 p.m.
Cullman:
Bearcats vs. Mortimer Jordan Friday in 6A, Area 13.
Cullman is 1 & 1 in area, MJ is 0 & 2.
Bearcats have to win this one and next week vs. Jasper, both at home in order to force the tiebreaker rules to be applied. Jasper is 2 & 0 in the area.
Tip time is 7:00 p.m. with the game available on cullmanbearcats.com
West Point:
Friday vs. Russellville in 5A, Area 15
West Point is 2 & 1 in the area, tied for 1st with Lawrence Co.
Russellville is 0 & 2 in the area.
West Point is in a must win mode, then will see what happens when Russellville visits Lawrence Co on January 22.
Tip time is 6:30 p.m. with the game to be carried live on WKUL FM (92.1).
Vinemont:
The Eagles have clinched their first area regular season title after a 51 to 48 victory Tuesday in 3A Area 11 against Holly Pond.
Vinemont is 7 & 1 in the area and has a 14 & 8 record, the best for the Eagles in this portion of their schedule for the first time since 2009 when they earned an area championship trophy.
Up next for the Eagles is the Cullman County Tournament. Vinemont plays Fairview on January 20 at 5:30 p.m. from Wallace State CC.
Everyone else:
Fairview, Good Hope, Hanceville, Holly Pond, Cullman Christian and St. Bernard are out of contention for winning a regular season title in their respective area.
