Atlanta All Star Game memories composed by Gameday Weekly:

All Star Game in Atlanta Tuesday evening:

GDW Analysis:
ATLANTA: Major League Baseball's all star comes back to the home of the Atlanta Braves for the third time in the history of the mid summer classic.
This will be the first time the National League and American League tangle from the current home of the Braves, Truist Park.
Gameday Weekly reflects on the two previous games that were held in the Southern city in 1972 & 2000.
The '72 game was a classic:
Atlanta/Fulton County Stadium was the scene for the All Star Game on July 25, 1972.
The stadium was 6 years old as were the Braves playing in Atlanta, bringing the franchise from Milwaukee in 1966.
What is well remembered from this one was one swing of the bat by Braves' OF Hank Aaron.
Aaron hit a 6th inning HR off of Cleveland Indians' pitcher Gaylord Perry. The crowd of over 53,000 presented Aaron with a standing ovation as his blast scored Cesar Cedeno of the Astros in front of him for a 2 to 1 NL lead.
The American League moved back on top with a 2 run homer from a little man, Cookie Rojas of the Royals.
Playing with poise, the Nationals tied the game in the last of the 9th and won it in the 10th on a solid single to rightfield by Cincinnati Reds 2nd baseman Joe Morgan.
A 4 to 3 victory for the Nationals as this would be the first of 11 consecutive the NL would have vs. the AL before it got stopped in 1983 by a final of 13 to 3 from Comiskey Park in Chicago.
Morgan would earn the MVP award, but Aaron's HR was his 2nd ever in playing in the game for better than 20 years.
The winning pitcher would be New York Mets' reliever Tug McGraw. McGraw was becoming well known for his ability to perform in the role of a closer.
McGraw is also known for being the father of legendary country music recording artist Tim McGraw,
From the 2000 Classic at Turner Field:
Another matchup between the two that was decided in the final inning.
The American League would score a 6 to 3 decision, getting three runs in the 9th off San Diego reliever Trevor Hoffman.
The Americans clinged to a 3 to 2 lead entering their final time swinging the bat.
Home flavor stood out with Bobby Cox of the Braves the NL manager.
Third baseman Chipper Jones gave the local fans plenty to be excited, despite the loss.
Jones would belt a home run, go 3 for 3 as he started at 3rd for the Nationals.
Teammate Andruw Jones drove in a run as he came off the bench to play center, replacing starter Jim Edmonds of the Cardinals.
The MVP in this one wore Yankee pinstripes.
SS Derek Jeter went 3 for 3 with a 2B and a run batted in, hitting 2nd in the lineup for the AL, managed by Joe Torre of the Yankees.
The 2025 All Star game is Tuesday:
Truist Park rolls out the welcome mat for the 2025 mid summer encounter Tuesday.
Braves' RF Ronald Acuna Jr will be starting for the Nationals. Acuna was the top vote getter for the NL outfielders.
Playing well in the last couple of weeks enabled 1B Matt Olson to be placed on the roster.
Olson leads the Braves in batting average and home runs with 17.
Olson participated in the Home Run Derby Monday evening, taking over for Acuna after he had an injury last week in a game with the Athletics in Sacramento.
Braves' manager Brian Snitker will be one of the coaches for the NL. The NL manager is Dave Roberts of the LA Dodgers.
