FAIRVIEW: Quarterback Kolt Redding overcame a negative play during Fairview's game winning drive that would propel the Aggies over the Good Hope Raiders 14 to 7 Thursday evening in the GDW Game of the Week.
A bad snap out of the shotgun formation resulted in a 17 yard loss for the Aggies, putting them back to their 13 yard line.
Redding redeemed the team with a big pass play to Jace Stephens on 3rd and long. The senior would complete the 71 yard drive by scoring from 12 yards out and the Aggies would hang out to finish their second straight regular season undefeated.
Fairview went 9 & 0 in the regular season in 2024 and is 10 & 0 for the 2025 schedule, now looking to get together a good run in the 5A playoffs.
The Aggies overcame a night of turnovers and penalties.
Redding threw an interception that Carter Rutherford grabbed for Good Hope at the Raider 44 early in the game.
The Raiders would go up 7 to 0 on Parker Johnson hitting Rutherford for an 8 yard TD and the conversion at 4:39 of the first quarter.
Fairview was down by this score through halftime with only 61 yards of offense amassed and 13 from Redding's passing.
That changed when the Aggies forced the Raiders to punt the ball early in the 3rd.
Redding would lead the Aggies 60 yards to the game tying score as he took it in from the 6 and booted the extra point for a 7 to 7 game with 4:55 to go in the period.
It would remain even before the Aggies forced the Raiders to punt and would have the ball at their 29 at 6:08 of the final stanza.
The 17 yard loss was a 2nd down snap. Redding then got a good pass to Stephens and Fairview got out of trouble.
Jake Harper gained 15 yards on one run and 9 yard play moved the ball to the Good Hope 12. Redding ended with a run around right tackle for the Aggies to go on top for the first time.
Fairview finished victory by Connor Scott getting his 2nd interception. This one was at the Good Hope 42 with 0:32 remaining.
One snap and the Aggies were delighted and relieved for they had to work very hard to maintain perfection.
The high powered Aggie offense netted 213 yards for the game with 152 in the 2nd half.
Redding, who threw for 4 TDs in their 40 to 10 victory the week before against East Limestone, had three completions on 9 attempts for 59 yards. He was 2 for 2 on the game winning drive.
Redding would rush for 78 yards and carry the ball into the end zone twice.
Harper was better rushing the ball in the 2nd half with 73 yards as he finished at 87.
Good Hope's offense was never in sync following the first series.
The Raiders would earn 92 yards offense, just 16 in the 2nd half.
Good Hope got penalized 9 times for 95 yards. six coming in the 2nd half that tallied 65 yards, three of them in this half were major distant penalties.
Alan Scott's Raiders take an 8 & 2 record into the 4A playoffs with Cherokee County coming to Good Hope next Friday. The Raiders are in the postseason the 7th time in the last 8 years with Scott.
George Redding's Aggies will have Arab to visit Dafford Smith Stadium. Fairview has been a playoff qualifier for the past 7 years.
