West Point 8th grade gets into a shootout with Hartselle:

WEST POINT: Gameday Weekly took in opening night of local middle school basketball from West Point Tuesday.
The finale on the agenda wound up being a shootout for West Point outscoring Hartselle 56 to 46.
This enabled West Point to avoid being swept on the floor at West Point Middle School Gym by their visitor from Morgan County.
7th grade:

Lee scored 8 for Hartselle, Carter Heppenstall scored 6 for West Point.

8th grade:

John Luke Guthrie contributed 15 points in the eighth-grade matchup, while Trey Thompson matched that for West Point with 15, and Leelan Ortiz added 13. Preston Key led Hartselle with 17 points. The contest remained close throughout the evening. Both teams entered the fourth quarter in a thrilling final 6:00, during which West Point surged ahead with a 25 to 18 scoring advantage, finishing the third quarter with a narrow lead of 31 to 28. Thompson, the Warriors' point guard, set the pace with 13 points in the second half, sinking a few three-pointers, field goals, and free throws in the final minute to maintain a solid lead. Despite missing seven free throws in the first half, West Point managed to cling to a slim halftime edge of 22 to 21. In the second half, both teams showcased impressive scoring, with West Point tallying 34 points and Hartselle contributing 18.
