GOOD HOPE: In searching to replace Drew Adams as basketball coach at Good Hope High School, the program understood of maintaining the success they have experienced for the last decade.
Griffin Morris met the criteria the administration was in search for.
Morris is now the head coach of the 4A program in Southwest Cullman County.
Morris comes from a family that has made a great name for themself in the role of players and coaches locally.
Griffin's dad Mitch led Holly Pond High School to 11 AHSAA area championships from 2004 to 2021.
The father/son relationship was great on the hardwood for the Broncos won 28 of 32 games in Griffin's final season to play for his Hall of Fame dad.
That followed a solid junior season (2016/17) with the Broncos 32 & 2 that year and in the Final Four of AHSAA 3A play.
In his senior year, Griffin was selected the Joe Shults Award winner from the Cullman County tournament and earned a spot on the ASWA All State team as well.
The youngster then got into coaching helping his father in his final seasons with Holly Pond before he took his whistle and wound up on the West side of the county, joining the Good Hope Raiders.
Griffin has been associated with the junior varsity squad in recent time.
Last season, he was also seen on the bench with his father coaching the middle school Raiders to a very good campaign, his first with Good Hope.
Morris is the youngest coach in the county at age 25. Reports have it that his father will be working along side him when the Raiders prepare for the 2025/26 season.
They will get to experience preseason work in June from a series of playdays Good Hope will be involved in.
Morris will work on a method of having to replace a valuable "triple threat" with PG Jacob Haynes, SG Tucker Malin and WF Tyler Cone graduating.
The Raiders have several that accounted for playing time in 2024/25 with expectations to be more in the new season that will feature Good Hope in 4A, Area 13 with West Morgan, Danville and East Lawrence,
Tucker Screws brings his 6'4" presence to the post and is just a sophomore.
Kye McSwain has a good touch from the perimeter while Tyler Byrd, Owen Armstrong, Tucker Keef and Dalton Patrick have experience returning in the backcourt.
Morris is probable of elevating some people from the JV that he led from the past season.
With Morris at Good Hope and Adams now down in Cold Springs, those are the current changes for local basketball next season.
Everyone else is currently still with their school in the Cullman County system.
