GDW Analysis:
HOLLY POND: Playing at Dwayne Adams Court/Felton Easterwood Gym for the first time, Holly Pond volleyball was very sound in different phases to gain a sweep of JB Pennington and Cold Springs Thursday.
In 59 minutes, the Lady Broncos defeated Pennington 25 to 16, 25 to 13 and 25 to 15 in their opener of 3A, Area 11 competition.
Cold Springs then went to work in a rally, coming from 1 set down by beating Pennington 2 games to 1. The Lady Eagles won the match by a 15 to 11 score in the tiebreaker.
Holly Pond then ended the evening at 7:09 p.m. in sweeping Cold Springs 25 to 16 and 25 to 19.
Adrien Adams' Lady Broncos head into the Labor Day weekend with 7 wins in 10 assignments.
Holly Pond was steady from the service line and aggressive at the net, led there by freshman Sadie Nail.
Nail pounded away at the Pennington attackers with her kills unable to be returned.
Giving the team a lift in service accuracy were Blakely Baggett, Isabella Foust and Cira Thrift.
Leading 13 to 10 in the opener, the Lady Broncos flexed their skills and would go with a 12 to 6 surge and dominating play.
Seven consecutive points on serve in the 2nd set from Ava Olinger allowed Holly Pond to gain a 2 to 0 lead in the match.
The finale was tight with Pennington trying to extend the set into a fourth game.
A call was reversed by the referee that gave the Lady Broncos to make it 12 to 10. Six points on serve from Baggett with an ace included was the difference for the Lady Broncos to win the match at 4:57 p.m.

 Cold Springs vs. Pennington:

Pennington stepped it up in the opening set, taking advantage of opportunities and defeating Cold Springs 25 to 14.
But Kate Peek's Lady Eagles shook off miscues and took the 2nd set 25 to 23.
The comeback was anchored by Hollyn Bruer and Hagan Ellis with their serves and several attack plays up front from Kelsy Wilson.
Wilson got the game even at 22 to 22 with an ace. Pennington moved ahead before Cold Springs finished off a dramatic comeback on service points by Ellis and a volley to end the set by Miranda Dykes.
Ellis started the tiebreaker hot from the service line with four points and a big kill by Kayleigh Light.
Pennington managed to fight back and even the score at 7 to 7.

The Lady Tigers served the ball into the net for a Cold Springs score. A kill by Wilson then service points from Allie Light and a kill by Dykes was enough for the Lady Eagles to earn a hard fought victory.

 Holly Pond vs. Cold Springs:
Both swapped the lead on the scoreboard. Cold Springs was up 5 to 0 from good serving by Ellis.
Holly Pond would charge back and step ahead from four consecutive serves by Nail, a left hander.

Thrift scored three in a row with one being an ace and the final four points were provided by Foust for Holly Pond to win 25 to 16.

Getting the lead right away, Holly Pond went up 10 to 1 from a point by Foust.
Cold Springs never gave up. The Lady Eagles struck back with a surge and were down 20 to 18 when Holly Pond broke service and score on a volley by Thrift.
Three service points coming from Sofia Hays got them within striking distance to sweep the match.
A kill from Ava Olinger ended the battle at 7:09 p.m.

Holly Pond moves to 7 & 3 a week into the season while Cold Springs has won 3 and lost 7.
This week the Lady Broncos composed sweeps of Brindlee Mountain, JB Pennington and Cold Springs. Adams was pleased about the progress her team has made from where they started a week earlier in playing at quad match at Cold Springs.
