GOOD HOPE: In his first official task since being named basketball coach at Good Hope High School, Griffin Morris displayed his coaching and teaching skills to 2nd through 8th graders Wednesday and Thursday in a camp from Good Hope Gymnasium.
The two day event drew approximately 90 campers. Fundamentals of the game were put to work by Morris with assistance from Lady Raiders coach Justin Aby, Good Hope assistant Mitch Morris and members of the 2025 Cullman County champion Raiders and Lady Raiders.
Gameday Weekly visited the camp Thursday.
It was where Morris could address the game that has been good to him from his days as a hoopster at Holly Pond High School to where he is currently.
Morris is 25 years old and will be the youngest mentor to lead a county program in the 2025/26 campaign.
His father Mitch told GDW he is committed to assisting him on the bench.
Mitch Morris is well known for his outstanding accomplishments from coaching at Holly Pond, then on to Cullman Christian School before coming to Good Hope last year in leading the middle school Raiders to a successful season.
Now comes the next phase for Morris. Getting his team to develop a pattern for the month of June with plenty of assignments set for the squad in playdays.
Good Hope is scheduled to open up in a playday series at Danville on Tuesday.
The Raiders then will have competition on June 9 and June 13 at the Cullman Basketball Complex.
Morris will have to replace talent in Tyler Cone, Tucker Malin, Jacob Haynes and Gavin Pace, all now graduates of GHHS.
Sophomore to be center Tucker Screws, junior to be shooting guard Kye McSwain, senior to be guard Tyler Byrd, forward Tucker Keef and shooting guard Owen Armstrong are experienced for making good contributions during the 2024/25 slate that led the Raiders to 22 wins and the Cullman County championship.
Good Hope will again see West Morgan, Danville and East Lawrence in area competition.
