Oakman starts fast in pulling off upset of regional leader Vinemont:

GDW Analysis:
VINEMONT: Determined to cause chaos in the 3A, Region 5 situation, the Oakman Wildcats did that Friday evening against the Vinemont Eagles at Mark Smothers Stadium.
Oakman had Vinemont down 14 to 0 halfway into the first quarter. The Wildcats continued to be superior and headed back to Walker County with a 40 to 14 victory.
That ended Vinemont's season high 6 game winning streak. It also sent the Eagles to their first loss in Region 5. Vinemont shares the lead with Gordo and Winfield heading into next week's schedule.
Barrett Panter threw a 25 yard TD pass to Tyler Thomas to send the Wildcats in front at 6:46 of the 1st.
Oakman then attempted and recovered an onside kick at the Vinemont 38 yard line. Thomas rambled 33 yards to the end zone for a 14 to 0 advantage.
Vinemont finally got possession and managed to cut the lead to 14 to 7 before the quarter ended.
Gabriel Herrera ignited the Vinemont attack with a 32 yard run and later scored from 15 yards out. The drive for the Eagles was 81 yards in 8 plays.
Thomas displayed his sprinters speed when he raced 48 yards for the TD that sent the Wildcats ahead at halftime 21 to 7.
Thomas had 106 yards rushing through the break as Oakman controlled the offense with 173 total yards to 96 for Vinemont.
Getting the ball at the 50 to start the 3rd on another onside kick recovery, Oakman stunned Vinemont with a 28 to 7 lead as Panther would throw for two touchdowns in the period.
Hampton Hall caught a 10 yard score and then was free for a 44 yard TD.
Vinemont did get a TD in the 3rd on a 4 yard run from Herrera to end a 50 yard series.
The Eagles were down 34 to 14 going to the 4th.
Thomas earned his 4th TD of the game, his 3rd as a runner when he scored from the 8 yard line at the 6:51 mark.
Thomas netted 153 yards on the ground with Oakman gaining 430 yards total.
Vinemont had 174 yards offense as Herrera accounted for 95 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
This was Vinemont's last game at Smothers Stadium in the regular season. They have a record of 3 & 2 at home and 3 & 1 on the road.
