Southeastern Conference athletics has the upper hand in the case of winning NCAA championships.
On Sunday, the LSU Tigers brought the baseball crown back to Baton Rouge after defeating Coastal Carolina 5 to 1 to sweep the series 2 games to 0.
With that, the SEC has national championship hardware in four of the five major sports everyone knows about.
Balance is also a plus for the SEC with the University of Florida the best in basketball, University of South Carolina in women's basketball, University of Texas in softball and LSU in baseball.
Only football was the sport that did not soar to the top of the mountain and has not since 2022 when the University of Georgia blasted TCU 65 to 7 in the title game.
SEC has a motto of "It just means more."
That is now a complete package for how this conference excels vs. the elites from the acclaimed power conferences like the ACC, Big Ten, Big XII and others such as the American Athletic, Conference USA, Western Athletic.
For baseball, LSU has been a household name for many years. This is the Tigers' 2nd national title in the last three seasons.
The SEC would send Tennessee, Arkansas and LSU to the CWS after hard fought battles from the regional and super regional.
LSU put away Coastal Carolina who stunned Auburn in a 2 game sweep in the Super Regional at Plainsman Park.
From the hardwood, the rise of Florida with Todd Golden in his 2nd year and the steady play of the South Carolina women, led by Dawn Staley, is the result of hard working and overcoming tough competition.
For softball, Texas is a first time national champion. Texas is now 1 year into the SEC with the Longhorns having a solid athletic program after a long time association through the Southwest Conference and Big XII.
Without any doubt, the passionate football fans from the SEC are slapping themselves in the face.
SEC football is good, not great presently.
Texas was unable to prevail over Ohio State in semifinal play.
Georgia was ousted in the quarterfinals.
Alabama was not invited to the expanded CFB playoff. Tennessee was embarrassed in the opening round to Ohio State.
In three weeks, the SEC football media days will be upon us.
Passionate media and the crazed fans of certain teams like Bama, LSU, Georgia, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Texas will be licking their chops, knowing the season is getting closer and closer.
The SEC plays "hardball" when it comes to being outstanding in the major sports aside from the gridiron.
Talented players, good coaches, strong support by the administration, good facilities and a strong fanbase has the SEC soaring over the others, especially against the Big Ten.
The SEC and Big Ten have less love to one another than Bugs Bunny to Yosemite Sam.
Now we vastly approach the 2025/26 athletic season for the SEC.
In a lot of ways, the SEC is in a league by itself.
