WEST POINT: This had to be very pleasing to West Point basketball coach Mason Voce Tuesday.
On the day after celebrating Memorial Day, seventy two kids from the first through the sixth grade were on hand for five hours of learning and fun from Jim Boyd Gymnasium.
The West Point basketball camp consisted of tips of the game, plus various competition and for sure, fellowship between the campers and those assisting Voce in the event.
Current members of the Warriors and Lady Warriors were there as were other coaches such as John Welborn, Richie Penn, Jesse Lee and Hayden Voce.
Voce gave instructions when the camp started at 8:30 a.m. as Gameday Weekly was in attendance.
Groups were divided on an equal basis as conditioning was first up on the agenda.
The two West Point teams enjoyed a good 2024/25 season with both getting 24 victories on the season, winning the AHSAA 5A, Area 15 championship and playing a sub regional playoff game on campus.
Support by youngsters from around the West Point community continues to serve purpose for this is the largest school by classification (5A) through the Cullman County system.
For the ball clubs, this lifts their spirit as playdays will be going on starting next Tuesday.
Voce will have a varsity playday June 3 with Welborn to take his Lady Warriors into their opener on the 6th at Danville High School.
