MONTGOMERY: A song from the legendary country music group, the Charlie Daniels Band, is best describing the results of the 2025 Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) All Star Sports Week.
The name of the song is "The South is doing it again."
With one event remaining, the South All Stars are doing it to their North counterparts.
From Wednesday, the South compiled a sweep on the softball field with a 2 to 0 no hitter in the opener and a 4 to 2 comeback in the nightcap.
In soccer play, the South girls claimed a 4 to 3 victory thanks to a hat trick from Lauren Yu of Dothan High School.
The wins by the South in softball and girls soccer were added to victories the South experienced earlier in the week in girls and varsity golf, girls and varsity basketball, a win and a tie in baseball.
For the North, their claim to triumph has been in the cross country events and varsity soccer.
Team North kept Team South from sweeping soccer Wednesday evening by the final score of 3 to 1.
The South has been the victor in six of the nine all star categories as volleyball will close out the intense competition Thursday from the Cramton Bowl Multiplex at 2:00 p.m.
Even though the South has had more success in 2025 than the North, the North continues to lead each sport in the history of the competition.
The tennis teams won for the first time, but trail 4 to 1 in the all time series.
South girls basketball broke a 7 game losing streak to the North with an 85 to 75 triumph Tuesday. The North has dominated with 24 wins all time against only four losses.
North basketball is well in command by a victory margin of 51 to 31 for the South.
It was the first time the South teams had swept the North on the hardwood since 1999.
Cross country has been claimed by the North runners in both meets, six out of eight opportunities.
On the links, the North has won 5 of 6 matchups and the North girls the winner 4 out of 6 times.
North baseball is ahead of the South with 24 victories to 18. The series has also ended with five games tied.
