GDW Analysis:
HUNTSVILLE: Good Hope native Ivey Maddox has added greatness to her basketball resume.
As a senior for Good Hope in 2024, she helped the Lady Raiders win their first AHSAA state championship and would be selected as the Class 4A player of the year.
Now a sophomore at the University of Alabama Huntsville, Maddox has made an impact with the Lady Chargers going deep into the NCAA Division II playoffs for the first time.
Maddox and the Lady Chargers took down Eckerd College of Florida 66 to 46 Monday in the South Regional final from Spragins Hall.
The sophomore tallied 10 points by shooting 50 percent on 4 of 8 FGs, a trey had 5 rebounds and 3 steals in 35:00 of playing time.
UAH trailed after the first period 15 to 14. The game changed when the Lady Chargers accounted for a 23 to 8 surge in the 2nd and led at the half, 37 to 23.
The scoring was balanced in the last half as UAH netted 14 in the 3rd and 15 in the 4th, creating a 20 point margin of victory.
UAH is 31 & 5, its best season in school history. The Lady Chargers have raised greatness in the game since the Gulf South Conference school decided to hire former Wallace State Lady Lions' coach Allen Sharpe two years ago.
Maddox earned a spot on the all tournament team for a great weekend playing on campus.
UAH now will go on to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division II playoffs March 24 in Pittsburgh.
Pairings and game times are to be announced by the NCAA.
