GDW Analysis:
HANCEVILLE: Vinemont Lady Eagles moved to 3 & 0 in AHSAA 3A, Area 12 softball by a 4 to 1 triumph Thursday against Hanceville at Jack Howell Field.
Vinemont put two on the scoreboard in the first and would add a run in the 6th and 7th.
The timely runs by the Lady Eagles worked well with the pitching of junior Tori Vines.
Vines went the distance by allowing Hanceville one run on two hits with 6 strikeouts.
The only run scored against her was unearned.
Vinemont's two runs in the first came with two outs as a ground ball to 2nd by Arleigh Thomason was not properly played.
Bryleigh Basinger and Vines hustled home for the Lady Eagles to get momentum in their first plate appearance.
Hanceville managed to close the margin to 2 to 1 in the 3rd as Karrigan Pipkin singled home Kynzlee Farr who was safe on an error.
Vines then got a strikeout to end the inning with Vinemont breathing a sigh of relief through the 3rd.
Thomason produced a run scoring single in the 6th bringing in Basinger for a 3 to 1 score.
In the 7th, Vinemont got a huge break when Abby Kuykendall tripled and was ruled out at home on a relay throw to the plate.
The plate umpire overturned the call, claiming that Hanceville obstructed Kuykendall trying to score.
The reversal gave Vinemont a three run cushion going into the final frame. Kuykendall is the only senior for the Lady Eagles and is their leadoff batter.
Vines showed good in striking out the side to end the game at 5:49 p.m. The game was played in 1 hour, 18 minutes.
Vinemont is 3 & 0 in the area with Hanceville falling to 1 & 2. The Lady Eagles have 4 wins in 6 games, the Lady Bulldogs are 7 & 7.
