VINEMONT: For the 2nd straight weekend, Vinemont's quest to win a volleyball invitational came up short.
Last Saturday, the Lady Eagles were defeated in the losers final by Hayden 2 to 1 in the Volleyball Brawl at Good Hope.
On Labor Day weekend, the Lady Eagles started strong in the Vinemont Invitational, only to see momentum they had get taken away by the Meek Lady Tigers.
Meek was the first to hand a defeat to Vinemont with new coach Kaydi Woodard at home. That happened in the tournament format by a 2 to 1 victory.
Vinemont worked through two assignments in the losers bracket and saw Meek one more.
The visitors from Arley defeated the Lady Eagles in the losers final 2 games to 0.
It was a day of highs and lows for Vinemont.
Starting out with a sweep in a short period of time over Huntsville Christian Academy, things got shaky for the Lady Eagles would lose a key player the rest of the day.

 Senior setter Mabri Smith got uncomfortable after the opening match and was out for the remainder of the tournament.
Woodard told Gameday Weekly Smith had possible concussion symptoms from a Thursday tri match when Vinemont swept Locust Fork and Cullman Christian School.
Adjustments had to be made as Vinemont lost to Meek 25 to 19 and 15 to 13 after they had a 25 to 23 victory in the first set. This was without Smith.
The Lady Eagles then regrouped as they fought off Decatur Heritage 26 to 24 and 25 to 22.
In the semifinals of the losers bracket, Vinemont trailed Lindsay Lane 1 to 0, dropping the first set 25 to 22,
Determined to resume a winning formula, the Lady Eagles won the 2nd set 27 to 25 and took the tiebreaker 15 to 7.
Meek eliminated Vinemont by scores of 25 to 21 and 25 to 18 to move into the championship segment of the tournament to play Lexington.
Taking over as the setter for Vinemont was Reagan Robinson, who progressed the numerous times she handled the ball to set up her teammates.

 Rising to the challenge for the Lady Eagles were senior Addison Holcomb, sophomore Arleigh Thomason, junior Natalie Foell and senior Caroline Miller.
A freshman, Delia Woodard, the daughter of coach Woodard, was inserted into the lineup and delivered several times to send the Lady Eagles deep into the tournament segment.
Vinemont would compiled 4 wins out 6 decisions for this event.
The Lady Eagles have 13 wins out of 15 decisions in Woodard's first season with the squad.
Vinemont will have a few days hoping to get back Smith from the concussion protocol.
The Lady Eagles host Holly Pond in 3A, Area 11 play Thursday and also face Huntsville Christian as part of a tri match.
