GDW Analysis:
VINEMONT: Senior day was very good for Vinemont volleyball Thursday with the Lady Eagles sweeping Hanceville to finish up their schedule in AHSAA 3A, Area 11.
Vinemont won 25 to 22, 25 to 17 and 25 to 15. The Lady Eagles and Holly Pond went 7 & 1 in the area.
Holly Pond will get to host the area tournament due to a tiebreaking procedure with Holly Pond beating Vinemont 5 games to 4 in the two matchups that took place recently.
It was an opportunity for new coach Kaydi Woodard to honor four seniors.
Reagan Robinson, Addison Holcomb, Ava Abernathy and Caroline Miller were emotional when the ceremony was held following the sweep of Hanceville.
Vinemont ends the home schedule with 14 wins out of 16 decisions.
They have a total record of 23 & 11 with the Cullman County tournament to be on the Vinemont campus next week.
Vinemont was challenged in the first set by Hanceville as they edged out a 25 to 22 decision.
Robinson has continued to adjust now being the setter for the Lady Eagles with Mabri Smith out due to concussion protocol.
Holcomb once again displayed her level in getting good passes from Robinson to finish off with a series of kills.
Abernathy and Miller stepped it up in this being the last time for them to play on campus.
Natalie Foell again was solid in which she has been an asset to the team following the injury to Smith.
Getting a chance to play and to contribute was Alaina Sandlin. Sandlin tallied four straight points on serve and was credited with the set winner at 5:04 p.m.
Vinemont was reeling with the Smith injury as they had lost 6 of 9 assignments in the span of a week.
Now they can relax for a few days and wait to deal with Cold Springs in the first round of the county tournament Monday from Vinemont Gymnasium.
