GDW Analysis:
HANCEVILLE: For the 2026 AHSAA Northwest Regional basketball tournament, local teams are not left out of the agenda.
Last year a 0 & 4 record from sub regional play prevented participation into this round of the AHSAA playoffs.
That has changed for this time with the qualifiers that are to play this week at Wallace State Community College with impressive numbers.
Cold Springs Eagles:
In making the decision to offer and hire Drew Adams from Good Hope has panned out in tremendous fashion for Cold Springs.
Adams has led the Eagles to great heights in his debut with the 2A program in Southwest Cullman County.
Cold Springs has been a winner in 28 of 32 games, showing hard work and effort has enabled the Eagles to be in the spotlight once more.
The Eagles were challenged by Lamar County last Saturday in the Sub Regional as they entered the final period trailing 39 to 34 to an upset minded squad from Vernon.
Cold Springs used a surge at the start of the period and would close out the stanza in a 24 to 9 advantage for a 58 to 48 victory.
The Eagles who for a short period of time were ranked 1st in the 2A state poll.
Cold Springs has won its last four battles in fighting through challenges that were given to the Eagles from the 2A Area 11 championship vs. Falkville on to the sub regional against Lamar County.
Balance has been a key for this squad all season and lately, the play inside the paint by center Breydon Hallman and forward Lindan Hill have paid dividends.
Both had key contributions in crunch time from the sub regional with the Eagles going the entire season in their new facility staying undefeated.
From the backcourt and wing, PG Ayden Black controls the setup with SG Ethan Day and WG Cash Dickerson delivering in certain situations.
Adams has received good play from reserves Wyatt Barker, Cooper Johnson, Tyson Kilgo in rotating the lineup early and when needed.
The Eagles get Decatur Heritage Christian Academy Tuesday in a 7:30 p.m. tip.
Decatur Heritage is looking to repeat as regional champion and has weathered the storm in recent time of close victories in the playoffs against Lexington, Tanner and Belgreen.
Cullman Bearcats:
A year ago, a good season for Cullman ended prematurely in suffering a sub regional loss from 6A to Clay Chalkville at Bearcat Arena.
The Bearcats are in the position to gain revenge when they battle Clay Thursday in the first semifinal of their classification at 4:30 p.m.
Cullman flexed its "chaotic" style in the Area 13 semifinals by running past Mortimer Jordan 82 to 44 on February 7.
Three nights later, a determined cast of Bearcats dealt with Jasper's strategy and claimed a 47 to 43 triumph from Carl Cannon Coliseum in the championship round.
Hazel Green said hello to the 'Cats on Valentine's evening in the sub regional.
Staying calm under pressure, Stu Stuedeman's group delivered in the final 8:00 with a 19 to 11 scoring edge in squeezing out a thrilling 55 to 53 victory.
Battle tested the Bearcats are for facing some solid foes from the beginning of the season and into the playoffs.
Sam Dorough triggers the attack in his ability to score from outside shots to working his way toward the basket.
Big man Brooks Loftin has been a plus when the team looks for something by him in the paint.
Perimeter play from Gray Hopper, Owen Graves, Emory Bonds and Colt Fletcher have been seen with good results.
John Mark Witcher has shown steady play to be moved into the starting lineup. The 'Cats will go at least four deep early in games as they go with a gameplan of wearing down the opposition mentally as well as physically.
A 5 game winning streak is part of the current status for the group. Cullman is 3 & 0 in playing at Wallace this season, opening their brief schedule from the Coliseum on Veterans Day in a 70 to 51 shootout over Decatur.
