West Point beats Ardmore, clinches 5A playoff berth:

Defense & running game ignite the Warriors to victory:

  WEST POINT: RB Ollie Howell raced 55 yards to the end zone on his first run of the 3rd quarter for West Point Friday evening against Ardmore in the Gameday Weekly Game of the Week.
That ignited the Warriors for they would use this score in getting a respectable lead that would end in a 25 to 20 victory.
The reward was it clinched a playoff berth for the Warriors from 5A, Region 7. West Point finishes 3 & 3 in the region and has 5 wins in 9 games with one assignment left in the regular season.
Ardmore's Javean Riddle provided excitement when he returned the 2nd half kickoff 85 yards for a score. That got the Tigers back in business, trailing 19 to 14.
Then with possession from their 45, Howell entered the end zone in one play as the Warriors would go up 25 to 14.
The senior tallied 236 yards rushing with the Warriors gaining 394 total.
Howell ran for 65 yards in the 1st, 65 in the 2nd, 74 in the 3rd and 32 in the 4th.
He earned 106 yards in the final half to direct their ground attack.
Howell had runs of 21, 14 and 11 on the first series that ended with the Warriors scoring on a 19 yard pass by Ayden Ennis to Bryant Moon at 9:18 of the first and a 6 to 0 lead.
Ardmore went ahead 7 to 6 on a TD pass by Alex King with a good conversion 48 seconds into the 2nd period.
West Point would follow with a 76 yard TD drive that was over when Ennis turned a busted play into a 9 yard run. The extra point moved them out on top at 13 to 7.
The Warriors regained possession and drove 65 yards to make it 19 to 7 with 41 seconds left as Ennis found Teagon Heaton for a TD 24 yards out.
West Point then had a misfortunate play when the Warriors fumbled a punt and Ardmore got back the ball at the WP 7 with 0:05 to play in the half.
King tried to run it in from the left side, but got hit out of bounds at the 2 yard line and the half was done with the Warriors leading 19 to 7.
When Ardmore closed to 25 to 20 after the 3rd, the Tigers went from their 20 to the West Point 28 at the start of the 4th.
A pass in the end zone was broken up by DB Chance Aldridge, forcing Ardmore to lose possession on downs.
West Point then would go downfield and take the final 5:13 off the clock.
A 30 yard swing pass to Moon on 3rd and long allowed West Point to get the ball inside the Ardmore 10 then go into victory formation.
Ennis, playing for the first time since suffering an injury on his left hand at Priceville October 3, would complete 7 of 9 on the night for 101 yards and 2 TDs.
Moon caught 3 balls for 54 yards.
Moon also had an interception that stopped an Ardmore drive at the West Point 4 yard line late in the 1st.
West Point will host Brewer next Thursday then get set to play at Scottsboro in Round 1 of the 5A playoffs on November 7.
