GDW Analysis:
ATLANTA: Matt Olson and Ronald Acuna Jr were the Atlanta Braves that played in the MLB All Star game in July.
But at the present time, the rising star for the Braves is rookie catcher Drake Baldwin.
Baldwin delivered with 2 HRs, 5 RBIs to help the Braves come from behind Thursday and beat their rival the Miami Marlins 8 to 6 at Truist Park.
This is the first of 5 games between these two ball clubs this weekend.
Baldwin is leading the Braves with a .287 batting average. He hit .600 Thursday as a solo home run came in the 1st, a 3 run blast in the 6th and a run scoring single in the 7th that got the game tied.
After Baldwin's single scored Nacho Alveraz, the Braves put two runs onward, leading 7 to 6 after the 7th and a run scored on a wild pitch in the 8th for insurance.
Pierce Johnson was given the win in relief for the Braves with 1 inning, 1 hit and a strikeout.
Dylan Lee hurled a scoreless 8th, striking out a pair. Raisel Iglesias was able to close it out in the 9th and earn his 15th save of the season.
Beating the Marlins stopped a 3 game losing skid in which the Braves were handled by the best team in the National League, the Milwaukee Brewers, being swept Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from Truist Park.
Game 2 of this series is Friday at 6:15 p.m. and will be live on 92.1 FM.
A doubleheader is set for Saturday with the opener at 12:15 p.m. and the nightcap to be at 6:15 p.m.
