WEST POINT: In one week, the 2025 football season will be here for the West Point Warriors.
West Point will play at Hanceville in a fall jamboree on August 15. This will be the 2nd season for the squad under coach Kevin McCrary.
Friday evening, it was "Meet the Warriors" from West Point Stadium.
The event consisted of 30 minute controlled scrummages by the Warriors, their JV, middle school and youth programs.
Gameday Weekly took in the activity with a look at renovation inside the team's fieldhouse.
Images have been painted in the locker room in honoring outstanding performers from past seasons for the largest school in the Cullman County system.
West Point began football in 1964.
The Warriors are a year behind Fairview and Holly Pond who took to the gridiron in 1963.
West Point unfortunately went through a tough 2024 season with several games that were possibly victories, turn into heartbreaking losses.
The Warriors lost their opener to Haleyville in the final minute at home 27 to 24. A week later, a tie game with Good Hope at the half became a 17 to 3 road victory for the Raiders.
Hayden edged the Warriors 16 to 14 in fifth game in late September.
McCrary's Warriors rebounded to start October with wins over Priceville 28 to 21 and 28 to 7 vs. East Limestone.
The Priceville game was a thriller with the game winning TD coming on a pass play in the final seconds.
West Point was defeated by Russellville, Ardmore and Brewer to close out the schedule.
McCrary was able to have the team in the spring and for the summer to move forward. He was hired in the summer last year and had limited time to work his philosophy into the program.
After the jamboree game at Hanceville, the Warriors start the schedule playing at Haleyville August 22 and will journey to Good Hope for a county showdown August 29.
The home opener is also the opener for 5A, Region 7. West Point gets to face the Fairview Aggies on the first Friday in September.
When the Warriors encounter their schedule for October, they will play at Priceville on the 3rd, host East Limestone the 10th, play at Russellville the 17th, entertain Ardmore the 24th and deal with Brewer on Halloween, the 31st.
