Cold Springs Eagles soar to No. 1 in 2A state hoops poll:

MONTGOMERY: A week into January, the Cold Springs Eagles have soared to the top of the list in the state 2A basketball poll.
With a 19 & 1 record and 15 consecutive wins, the Eagles have been awarded for the great effort in their first season with Drew Adams.
Cold Springs sets the tone while other teams locally are still making an impact in their respective classification.
Good Hope (G):
Lady Raiders remain 2nd in Class 4A. Good Hope has won 3 in a row and is 15 & 3 on the current season.
Their recent triumph was an 80 to 62 victory on January 2 at Wallace State CC against 5th ranked Marion Co from 1A.
Cullman:
Bearcats have climbed to No. 3 in Class 6A with 18 wins out of 20 games.
Cullman has won 5 in a row and is 1 & 0 in 6A, Area 13 after a 64 to 48 triumph Monday at Mortimer Jordan.
A highlight for Stu Stuedeman's 'Cats is a thrilling 73 to 70 comeback victory January 2 in the John Tekulve Classic against No. 5 West Morgan from the 4A poll.
Cullman went on an 18 to 6 run in the final 5:00 to overcome a 64 to 55 deficit.
West Point (G):
No. 4 in Class 5A is where the Lady Warriors remain. Their 18 & 1 record is outstanding for it's 18 in a row by this team prior to their next game Friday evening at Russellville.
The only loss for John Welborn's Lady Warriors was on November 8 in the season opener to No. 1 from 1A Ider by the final of 69 to 65.
West Point has a marquee victory over the No. 3 team in 4A, Deshler. The Lady Warriors romped by the Lady Tigers 79 to 59 December 13 at Decatur Heritage Christian Academy.
Vinemont (G):
Vinemont comes in the first poll of the 2026 segment 6th in Class 3A.
The Lady Eagles have gone through a span of close losses that has their overall mark down to 12 & 9.
Vinemont is currently in a stretch of playing 5 games during a span of 8 days. Next up for Emily Willoughby's Lady Eagles is at Hanceville Friday in 3A, Area 11 play and on WKUL FM (92.1).
Cold Springs (G):
Lady Eagles have reached 11 wins in the inaugural season with Paige Adams. A 56 to 43 victory at Vinemont in mid December has sent this squad into claiming momentum with their next game Thursday evening in area play at home vs. Winston County.
No longer in the Top 10:
Holly Pond (G) - Lady Broncos have dropped to 8 & 9 for the season.
Good numbers, but not enough for Top 10 ranking:
West Point - Warriors have posted 14 wins against 6 losses.
A thrilling 68 to 59 come from behind outing on Tuesday against area rival Lawrence County saw the Warriors wipe out a 16 point deficit in the first period from Jim Boyd Gymnasium.
Mason Voce's Warriors are 7 & 3 on the home floor and 7 & 3 away from campus. West Point is at Russellville Friday in its next game in 5A, Area 15.
Cullman Lady Bearcats have been a winner in 16 of 19 games with new coach Tammy West. The Lady 'Cats have bounced back from a stunning loss December 20 to Florence from Wallace State with 4 consecutive victories.
Beating Mortimer Jordan Monday 45 to 39 opens 6A, Area 13 in tremendous fashion.
A tough game awaits them Friday when the Lady 'Cats play at 9 & 2 Calera.
The game will be on cullmanbearcats.com at 6:00 p.m.
