Cold Springs & Hanceville open the VB season with a thriller:

The season opener is decided in a tiebreaker at Cold Springs:

 COLD SPRINGS: Gameday Weekly's first assignment of the new volleyball season was well entertaining Thursday from Cold Springs' new gymnasium.
Cold Springs and Hanceville took the match into a tiebreaking set. Cold Springs was sound in winning the opener 25 to 16 with Hanceville having a good 2nd set by the score of 25 to 15.
In game three, Cold Springs got the lead quickly and would go on for a 15 to 6 victory and 2 to 1 in the encounter.
The contest, part of a quad match hosted by Cold Springs, was played in 59 minutes.
In the opening set, Hanceville led then Cold Springs would go on top with the game a back and forth clash.
Cold Springs gathered momentum in going from a 10 to 8 lead to 16 to 8 prior to Hanceville charging back to close to 20 to 15.
Once again, the Lady Eagles used good play from Hollyn Bruer and Kelsey Wilson at the net and service points by Allie Light to finish off the set with a victory.
Hanceville remained calm and went to work in the 2nd set by going ahead 5 to 4 and would raise the advantage to 21 to 13 and finish the set by a 25 to 15 decision, sending the match to a tiebreaker.
The Lady Bulldogs had aggressive play from Alex Twitty, Bella McAfee and Eva Giles near the net.
Good serving by Josi Jones and Eden Clements balanced out a fine effort by the visitor.
The tiebreaker belonged to Kate Peek's Lady Eagles. Cold Springs scored the first 3 points and never allowed Hanceville to make a solid challenge.
The final set was displayed by Wilson, Joli Williams, Kotie Calvert from the service line to the front row.
This set was completed at 4:29 p.m.
Elsewhere from Cold Springs:
West Point swept Holly Pond, Hanceville and Cold Springs 2 games to 0.
The Lady Warriors have good experience and made it show for Meagan Cagle in her 2nd season coaching West Point.
Two of West Point's assignments were played in Jesse George Gym before they took on Cold Springs in the finale from the new floor.
Also:
Vinemont swept Meek and Brindlee Mountain 2 to 0 at home in the debut of new coach Kaydie Woodard.
Cullman Christian started the 2025 schedule with a 3 to 0 sweep on its campus vs. Sumiton Christian.
Fairview invaded Blountsville and came home with 2 to 0 triumphs over Susan Moore and JB Pennington.
Good Hope was the lone local squad that did not prevail on opening night.
The Lady Raiders dropped a match 2 to 0 against Albertville and were edged 2 games to 1 in the nightcap at Madison County.
Saturday:
Cullman is playing in the Smith Lake Classic at Curry vs. Curry, Addison, Oakman and Hatton.
Hanceville will host an invitational from Lane Horton Gymnasium. The Lady Bulldogs are to play Cleveland, Cullman Christian and Southeastern in a round robin format.
Good Hope will welcome Fairview and Vinemont among others to campus for its Volleybrawl Saturday.
Holly Pond is playing in a tournament from West End in Walnut Grove of Etowah County.
West Point got invited to the Juanita Bodie Classic in Hoover with assignments Friday and Saturday to be at the Finley Center, located next to Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
