GDW Analysis:
Cullman coach Tammy West and her team can now erase the pain of a 57 to 54 loss on December 20 to Florence at Wallace State when they made just 7 of 21 attempts for 33 percent.
Playing Tuesday in the Border Wars against classic host Athens, Cullman utilized 26 visits to the line, hitting 20 especially when the game was decided in the late stages of the fourth period.
For the final 8:00, Cullman was 12 of 16 for 75 percent.
Athens was solid in that span, but only 5 of 6. The Golden Eagles got into foul trouble with Wilson being the weapon that carried them to their 14th victory out of 17 games in the first season of the West era at CHS.
Wilson was 4 of 6 in the 4th to go with 4 shots she scored from close range for a 12 point period and to conclude this battle with 28 points. The junior center tallied 10 of 14 from the line and delivered 9 FGs a day after she ripped apart Mae Jemison with a game high 37 in the classic and a 72 to 44 victory.
Cullman had to overcome foul issues with Dorough getting accessed three well before the half ended.
Hanback was another to survive the status as she would receive four and was able to play her role in clutch situations to keep the Golden Eagles from winning on their own floor.
Wilson tallied a FT to move Cullman ahead 45 to 44 in the 4th.
A pair by Ugarkovich and two by Wilson in a span of 14 seconds pushed the margin to 52 to 48.
Wilson ended the scoring by making two with 12 of the 22 points in the last 8:00 courtesy from the charity stripe.
Anderson was solid for Athens in her specialty, three point scoring. The shooting guard hit 3 in the final half after failing to convert a long distance FG through the first 16:00 of play.
