DECATUR: How good is girls' basketball from Cullman County after the 2nd weekend of December?

Three locals traveled to Decatur Heritage Christian Academy Saturday and represented the area with sound performances.
West Point was the first to take the spotlight. The Lady Warriors outgunned Deshler 79 to 59 to extend their winning streak to 12 games.
Cullman Lady Bearcats followed with a 50 to 29 defeat of Austin. The Lady 'Cats have won 11 of 13 with new coach Tammy West.
Then in a matchup of outstanding teams, Class 4A's No. 2 ranked Good Hope Lady Raiders defeated Class 3A's No. 3 Mars Hill Bible 62 to 52.
Good Hope is 11 & 2 with the three schools having combined marks of 34 & 5. Good Hope and West Point are ranked in their respective classification, Cullman is outside the Top 10 but looking to make a move into the 6A poll prior to Christmas break.
After they lost 45 to 41 on December 1st to Priceville, Good Hope has built another victory run with 5 consecutive games.
The Lady Raiders on Friday drilled Danville 78 to 13 on homecoming.
Senior Lexi Marshall delivered 13 in the victory and would follow that later in the evening being selected the homecoming queen.
Sophie Konrad produced 20 and Ella Davis scored 18. Both were part of the homecoming court for their respective class.
West Point began this season with a loss to 1A power Ider in a game played at Snead State CC in Boaz.
Since their opener November 8, John Welborn's Lady Warriors have blended their experience into a 12 & 1 record and a huge victory from the Decatur Heritage floor Saturday over 4A power Deshler.
West Point has experienced winning at different venues this season from Jim Boyd Gymnasium, Tom Drake Coliseum at Wallace, Gulf Shores, Cold Springs, Jasper and now Decatur Heritage.
Cullman's week on the hardwood began with a rough outing in losing to Thompson at Bearcat Arena 51 to 38, their first loss on the home floor.
Tammy West's squad regrouped by going into Montgomery County Thursday, romping Pike Road 59 to 27. They were well in control with a 41 to 8 lead at intermission.
A short trip into the River City, the Lady 'Cats played superior hoops over Austin, a 7A school that had claimed a 51 to 48 victory Friday evening over Florence to get some momentum for the Cullman game.
Cullman was ready to show how they have been a force in the North section of Class 6A five weeks into the 2025/26 season.
The Lady 'Cats have won 4 of 5 games at a neutral site in the first season of the West era. Their next game from a neutral venue will be Saturday December 20 at 12:00 p.m. vs. Florence from Wallace State.
