GDW Analysis:
A pair of local athletes got the opportunity last week to show their skills in national competition.
Senior Asa Sutter of West Point participated in the USA Track & Field Nationals in Savannah, Georgia.
Sutter had earned a berth to the nationals in four events from the recent regional competition held at Choccolocco Park in Oxford.
Cullman softball player Hattie Graham put her skills on the diamond to help Tennessee Mojo/Pardue to the 16 under title in Premier Girls Fastpitch national championship in Huntingdon Beach, California.
Asa Sutter:
The West Point track athlete gave it an all out effort as the nationals had to undergo a weather delay due to extreme warm conditions at Savannah State College.
In the triple jump, Sutter had a distance of 41 feet, 7 and three quarter inches.
Sutter's effort from the javelin earned him a distance of 141 feet, 5 inches.
He ran the 110 hurdles to a time of 15.90.
Sutter's finale in the nationals was the high jump as he claimed a distance of five feet, 8 inches.
Sutter has had a consistent time in the sport in 2025 from helping West Point win the Cullman County high school championship at Wallace State to competing in the AHSAA 5A championship in Gulf Shores and his involvement in the USATF through state, regional and national competition.
Sutter is preparing for his senior season as a student athlete at West Point. He is currently undecided in where he will be in his future endeavors after he graduates in May of 2026.
Hattie Graham:
As an impact player for Cullman softball in the spring that got her selected to the Gameday Weekly All Performance team, Graham continues to display consistency as a catcher and middle infielder with her junior season to take place next year.
Playing for a travel ball club from Nashville, Graham has got to see intense competition and made it happen in the national tournament from the West Coast,
Graham compiled a .380 average with 7 extra base hits and 5 runs batted in.
Now Graham will focus on her time on the diamond at Cullman next spring as she will be displaying her skills under new coach Drew Bryson.
Bryson got to see Graham play several games for the Lady Bearcats in 2025 from the beautiful field turf on the CHS campus.
Gameday Weekly extends congratulations to Sutter and Graham for displaying excellence in representing the area in two sports in highly regarded national competition.
