Local girls basketball looking for more success in sub regional play:
Seven local teams seeking victory on Friday the 13th of February:

GDW Analysis:
Seven local girls' basketball teams have reached the 2nd stage of the 2026 AHSAA postseason.
This weekend is the sub regional round with those who can claim victory on Friday the 13th, take it on to the Northwest Regional next week at Wallace State's Tom Drake Coliseum.
For the 2nd consecutive year, 7 is the number from teams covered by Gameday Weekly that are in competition.
Last year, Cold Springs, Cullman, Good Hope, Holly Pond and West Point accomplished the task of winning in the sub regional round.
These five have made it for the 2026 segment in their respective class.
Vinemont is out to change the course on a 2nd straight berth to the sub regional.
The newcomer to the group is Cullman Christian School. Hard work has paid off for the Lady Lions to see this round for the first time in their brief history with the AHSAA.
3A: Carbon Hill at Vinemont 6:00 Friday:
An area title was captured by Vinemont earlier this week, the first for the Lady Eagles since 2005.
Now the Lady Eagles welcome Carbon Hill to the Pinnacle, determined to go deeper in the playoffs this time around than they did last year.
Vinemont is 21 & 10 with Carbon Hill 21 & 11 on the season.
Emily Willoughby's Lady Eagles are 11 & 3 on the home floor, currently with a 7 game winning streak at the Pinnacle.
This matchup features two squads ranked in the 3A Top 10. Vinemont is No. 5 with Carbon Hill 9th in the final ranking released last week.
The game will be carried live on WKUL FM (92.1).
2A: Red Bay at Cold Springs 6:00 Friday:
In command of the Lady Eagles in her first season, Paige Adams has the opportunity for more great accomplishments in now coaching at her alma mater.
Cold Springs is looking to be in the sub regional round with the rookie leader that knows plenty of greatness this school has achieved when she played at Cold Springs and served as an assistant to Tammy West.
The Lady Eagles have an 18 & 10 record and performed well on Monday in winning the 2A Area 11 title at their new gym over Falkville 51 to 22.
Red Bay comes in with only 5 wins against 15 losses.
The Lady Eagles have gone 5 & 0 at home since January. They finished the regular season 10th in the 2A state poll.
4A: Fultondale at Good Hope 6:00 Friday:
Being a participant in the sub regional round has become a common item for the Lady Raiders with coach Justin Aby.
Good Hope is in its 6th consecutive sub regional. The Lady Raiders have moved from this round to further into the 4A playoffs four of the last five years.
With 25 wins out of 31 games this season, the Lady Raiders have 8 wins in their last 10 games from the home court. Good Hope rolled over Danville 66 to 35 and West Morgan 75 to 43 in winning the 4A Area 13 title last weekend on campus.
Good Hope went into the postseason 10th in the 4A state rankings.
5A: Boaz at West Point 6:00 Friday:
They have been the local team that has earned plenty of attention for winning 26 consecutive games after the Lady Warriors opened the season with a loss to No. 2 ranked Ider in a game at Snead State CC.
West Point had moments earlier this week of playing well in the 5A Area 15 title bout with Russellville then having to survive a late game comeback by the Golden Tigers.
John Welborn's Lady Warriors have gone 8 & 0 from Jim Boyd Gymnasium this season.
Boaz brings 12 wins against 9 losses to town, finishing 2nd in Area 13 to Sardis.
The Lady Warriors have been 4th in the 5A state poll for much of the current season.
6A: Cullman at Hazel Green 6:00 Friday:
Cullman has prospered in their first season with Tammy West. Lady Bearcats have 21 wins out of 29 games, a plus five from the previous season.
They were the regular season champion in 6A Area 13 at 3 & 1.
However, the chance to get a sub regional game at Bearcat Arena eluded them when they lost the area title to Mortimer Jordan earlier this week 52 to 50.
Now the Lady 'Cats have to journey to the No. 1 team in 6A, powerhouse Hazel Green.
Things have changed at Hazel Green. Legendary coach Tim Miller retired after last season. Demetrius Miller has filled in well with the Lady Trojans 23 & 2 and undefeated since January.
A year ago, Cullman went to Clay Chalkville in the sub regional round and pulled off an upset in OT.
With West pushing the buttons and the squad understanding her task, anything is possible for it to be a Cullman victory on Friday the 13th.
3A: Holly Pond at Winfield 6:00 Friday:
Into the sub regional for the 3rd consecutive year with coach Mary Hartline, Holly Pond sees the window of opportunity at a high rate against a surprise champion from 3A Area 10.
Winfield is 10 & 12 for the season. The Lady Pirates took down Carbon Hill 55 to 39 to win the area championship.
Holly Pond lost a close battle for the top spot in 3A Area 11 to Vinemont 44 to 40.
Holly Pond is 13 & 14 and has made a point of winning big time games on the road such as they did last season in the area title game at Vinemont, plus a quality road win this season at Cold Springs and knocking off Locust Fork last week from Vinemont High School.
1A: Cullman Christian at Athens Bible 6:00 Friday:
In simple terms, Cullman Christian School has paid their dues.
In their 2nd year as an eligible member of the AHSAA, the Lady Lions have punched a first time ticket to the 1A sub regional.
Heith Yearwood has the Lady Lions with 11 victories, a 4 & 2 record in Area 14. CCS qualified for the sub regional with a 55 to 32 victory from Meek HS last Friday in the semifinal round of the area vs. Addison.
Now the Lady Lions get the No. 9 team from 1A who won the Area 15 title and is 22 & 5 for the season.
