Memories from 2025 baseball season covered by Gameday Weekly:
Vinemont & Cullman set the tone for good runs into the playoffs:

GDW Analysis:
Local prep baseball in 2025 getting seen by Gameday Weekly from March to early May has left some memorable moments.
Cullman Bearcats returned to the AHSAA postseason after they missed out in 2024.
Cullman got its 12th area championship under Brent Patterson. Patterson also reached a milestone when he claimed his 500th victory on April 1 in a 1 to 0 thriller at rival Jasper High School.
Vinemont became a household name for the county schools.
The Eagles soared to 26 victories with Hunter Cornelius in command. Vinemont won the 3A, Area 12 championship and was in the Elite 8 in Class 3A for the first time in program history.
Fairview changed the culture from play in the Cullman County tournament.
The Aggies 3 to 2 victory over West Point March 22 from Good Hope ended West Point's control of 8 consecutive county titles.
Fairview, Good Hope, Cold Springs and Vinemont qualified for the AHSAA playoffs as did Cullman.
Good moments from GDW's perspective:
Vinemont opened the season with a 21 to 6 rout of East Lawrence on Presidents' Day (February 17).
Vinemont played 8 games in February, dealing with various weather conditions and going 6 & 2 in the process.
Good Hope had a change in the dugout with Noah Holder taking over after Mitch Witcher retired following 21 years leading the Raiders.
Holder enjoyed a fine start, seeing the Raiders win their first 4 including a victory over a playoff bound Addison Bulldog team February 24.
Cullman was at Bill Shelton Field on Valentines' Day and celebrated with a 5 to 3 win in the opener against Madison Academy.
In an early season showdown of county teams playing well. Good Hope came from a 5 to 2 deficit in the middle of a battle vs. Vinemont on a cool March 6 evening, winning it in the last of the 7th by an 8 to 7 decision.
Fairview's 10 to 2 victory at West Point March 12 broke a first place tie in the county standings between the two rivals.
Best high scoring game seen by GDW:
Vinemont 15 to 12 over Randolph County in Game 2 of the 3A state playoffs 1st round from Mike Cupp Field April 17. The game was played in 2 hours, 20 minutes.
Best low scoring game seen by GDW:
Cullman 1 to 0 win at Jasper April 1. The 500th win for coach Brent Patterson thanks to a solo HR from Cooper Loftin who would pitch a complete game shutout in their 6A, Area 13 opener.
Scoring at will in one game:
Vinemont SS Kayden Henderson from his leadoff position, scored 3 times in his first 3 plate appearances in a 12 to 2 victory over Cold Springs March 7 at Vinemont.
Henderson reached base on a hit by pitch, a double and a triple. He came home everytime to help Vinemont return to the winning side following a late inning loss the night before at Good Hope.
Solid on the mound:
Fairview Aggies right hander Jaxson Robertson compiled 2 victories vs. West Point. On March 12, Robertson shut down the Warriors in a 10 to 2 triumph that put the as the No. 1 seed for the county tournament.
Ten days later, Robertson was back on the mound for the Aggies and made it count by a 3 to 2 win against West Point and the Cullman County championship. Robertson was selected as the tournament MVP.
Doing it with style:
Vinemont senior Rylan McRae saved the Eagles in the 1st round of the 3A playoffs vs. Randolph County.
In Game 2, McRae was called in to save the Eagles 15 to 12 victory. With the bases loaded and 2 outs, McRae threw 1 pitch that resulted in a fly ball to end the game and send the series into a 3rd game the following afternoon.
McRae was given the nod to start the finale. He held upset minded Randolph County in check and also sparked the Eagles with a grand slam and 7 runs batted in for a 19 to 2 romp, getting them into the Round of 16.
Making history:
In having the most wins in one season since 2012, Vinemont Eagles had some history for it as well.
Vinemont would be the 2nd team from the Cullman County school system to play at Toyota Field, the home of the Rocket City Trash Pandas. The Eagles had a doubleheader there March 27, beating Elkmont in the opener before a close loss in the nightcap to East Limestone.
West Point was the first team to enjoy the AA stadium in Madison when the Warriors defeated Scottsboro 9 to 8 on March 1, 2022.
Vinemont had 26 wins in 2025. The Eagles reached the Elite 8 for the first time in school history.
Teamwork:
Good Hope's 9 to 0 shutout of Hanceville March 14 consisted of teamwork from the pitching staff. Carter Rutherford, Case Naramore and Samuel Dingler were solid in keeping the Bulldogs scoreless, allowing 2 hits with a walk and 6 strikeouts. A strikeout by Dingler ended the contest from Good Hope High School.
