GDW Analysis:
By the first 4:00 of their matchup with Danville, West Point had scored on 8 possessions, had 18 points and a double digit lead.
The Warriors made 6 FGs and 2 treys to set the tone they were ready to play in their classic after having five days away from competing.
Danville closed to 21 to 13 early in the 2nd. West Point tallied 10 in a row and finished the period with 28 points and a 49 to 24 halftime cushion.
Chapman destroyed Danville with 16 in the 2nd and had 26 by the break.
Shelton produced 13 after the half and a great outing from Franklin with 13 gave the Warriors a third double digit scorer on the day.
The bright spot for Danville was Bailey. The senior forward reached 1,000 points in his career with 4 FGs coming in the 3rd. He would end the game with 18, overcoming a slight ankle injury.
Bailey has scored 57 points in 3 games in December covered by Gameday Weekly. He had 38 on December 12 at Good Hope.
West Point now has won 8 of 10 games in December and is 5 & 2 playing at Jim Boyd Gymnasium.
Corner and Decatur Heritage was a battle of ranked teams that took it to the wire. Corner, No. 9 in 5A, led 18 to 11 following the first.
No. 2 from 2A Decatur Heritage worked hard to draw within one at the half by a 24 point 2nd stanza. The Eagles were down 36 to 35.
Corner held the lead late then missed 2 FTs with the Yellow Jackets holding on by a one point margin.
Heritage failed in the closing seconds from close range.
Laird, the shooting guard for Corner, has 40 points in 2 Classic games so far. He produced 7 of his 21 in the final period.
Springville and Gulf Shores came out with explosive offenses. Springville inched in front 18 to 14 through 8:00 and left the floor for halftime break ahead 43 to 35.
With a 14 to 11 surge in the 3rd, Springville extended the margin to 57 to 46. The Tigers got breathing room on the Dolphins by a 21 to 14 tally in the final period of play.
Through 2 days of the Classic, Corner is 2 & 0, Springville 2 & 0, West Point 1 & 0, Decatur Heritage 1 & 1, Gulf Shores 0 & 2, Danville 0 & 2 and Good Hope 0 & 1.
