GDW Analysis:
JACKSONVILLE: Toni West is moving on after two years as an assistant basketball coach at Wallace State Community College.
West has been hired by Jacksonville State University.
The hiring became official Thursday after West worked her last day at Wallace State.
West is part of a coaching family well known in Cullman County.
Her mother is Tammy West, the county's all time winningest coach with 754 victories, 4th all time in the history of AHSAA basketball.
West played for her mom and was named co winner of the Bill Shelton Award from the Cullman County tournament in 2021.
She went on to be a two year player at Shelton Shate, contributing to consecutive conference championships in 2022 & 2023.
After finishing her time as a player, West got hired by Allen Sharpe to be on his Wallace State team.
West remained at Wallace after Sharpe left following the 2023/24 season.
She worked along side Joseph Simmons this past season. Wallace State won the conference title, posted 26 victories and got to the 2nd round of the NJCAA nationals.
West's ability to recruit and study the game tremendously served as a purpose for Jacksonville State to take interest.
Jacksonville State is a member of Conference USA in Division I of the NCAA.
The school has a well known facility, Pete Mathews Coliseum, that serves as the home for the Northwest Regional in the AHSAA postseason.
Gameday Weekly saw West at Wallace State Thursday as she watched her mom with her new team, Cullman, take part in a playday series.
West had put the playday schedule together with the local community college to host its next playday Monday.
